Next ESSA Feedback Session to be Live Streamed

Dear Colleague:

The third of eight state-wide Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) public feedback sessions will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, September 14, 6 – 8 p.m., in the Atlanta area:  North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Parkway, Atlanta 30350.  Attendance is encouraged but the Department of Education has announced the session will be streamed live which will make it accessible to anyone across the state.  Here are the details including the link for the live stream.

As we explained in an earlier message, Georgia is in the process of constructing its ESSA plan that will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in March for approval.  Every effort is being made to gather input from Georgians who value the public education system and have thoughts and ideas to present for consideration.

The first two sessions in Evans and Demorest were well attended.  After tomorrow night’s event, five sessions will remain.  If you need to learn more about ESSA, here are two good resources:  Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Partnership’s ESSA page. You may send E-mail comments directly to DOE at essa@doe.k12.ga.us.

As State Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods tells audiences, this is the state’s opportunity to put a bold Georgia stamp on the new law.  Please consider making your voice heard either in person or through other available avenues.
